Anna in Pencil

Hi everybody! I wanted to share with you a drawing I did recently. It's of Anna from Frozen (as you can hopefully tell!) and I did it one afternoon with pencil. I'm actually really pleased with how it came out. It's not perfect, but I haven't drawn in awhile and am glad I sat down and took the time to practice! :)
Have you seen Frozen? What did you think of it?

Sunflower Blogger Award!! :)

Lady Eowyn  (a blogger very dear to my heart because she was my first follower!) has nominated me for the Sunflower Award! Thank you so much, Lady Eowyn!! :)

I have to list 11 facts about myself and answer some questions...
Okay. Here goes. :)

1. I'm in the middle of learning how to play "Think of Me" on the piano.

2. When I was younger my first stories were a 5 "book" series about a princess named Jasmine (based on a barbie doll that I named Jasmine) and her two ugly, mean stepsisters and one nice sister. The series starts when the princesses are teenagers, and end when the girls are married and have kids of their own. I even did spin-offs focusing on their kids and other characters.  I just love those books, they're so funny and cute. :)

3. I have braces (not for much longer though, yay!!!).

4. I started journaling when I was 10 and am now on journal #13!

5. When I was little I thought the road signs saying "no outlet" (AKA dead end) meant that the houses on that street had no electrical outlets. True story.

6. I was first introduced to Jane Austen by my mom when I was 13 or 14. We got Pride and Prejudice 1995 from the library and I was hooked ever since. :)

7. I have a brother who's 2 years younger than me. He's the BEST (even though we don't ALWAYS get along....) and there are no other siblings that have as much fun as we do. Seriously. We're hilarious. ;)

8. I recently organized my CD collection according to color. :O)

9. Names I might want to name my future daughter are:

For a boy:
Darcy (my family has warned me against this one, but I stand firm...for now...)

10. I'm pretty sure the first movie I saw in a movie theater was Finding Nemo. The 2nd one (and last one!) I saw in a theater was An American Girl: Kit Kittredge. Yes, we're not big fans of movie theaters. :P

11. I'm currently reading Jane Eyre for the first time and am in love with it!
And this picture makes me crack up every single time I see it:

Are you a blueberry or strawberry girl, i.e. which berry do you prefer?
I love both, actually! Those and raspberries and cherries. Yum!!

What is the most chilling book you have ever read?
Chilling? Maybe Left Behind: The Kids. Those books were an emotional roller coaster. All 40 of them. But I love them. They were so sad and heartbreaking and a bit scary, but inspirational and a good reminder that Jesus could come back for his followers any day. It also gave me a better understanding of the tribulation and what it will be like, even if the books aren't 100% correct. I mean, I'm sure the authors didn't interpret everything spot on and that the rapture/tribulation won't be exactly as they described!

Would you rather travel to Asia or Europe?
Europe, most definitely. England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria....

Do you like to dance and if so what form?
I don't dance, but if I did I'd love to learn tap dance. I love watching people like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers tap dance in the old movies. It just blows my mind how good they are.
I'd also love to learn ballroom dancing. And the dances from Jane Austen's time. :)

What is one of the books of the Bible you are currently reading?
I'm trying to read a chapter of Psalms every day.

My nominees:
Evelyn at Into the Western Wild
Naomi at Wonderland Creek

State 11 facts about yourself and answer these questions:
Least favorite and favorite Disney princess?
Book you're currently reading?
A movie that makes you cry?
Which author do you prefer: Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Louisa May Alcott, or L. M. Montgomery?
Favorite person from history?

Skirts or Pants=Judging Others

Awhile back one of my favorite modest fashion blogs, Fresh Modesty, had a post with a 122 comment war about the jeans outfit featured: Chevron Tunic.

Okay. So it wasn't exactly a war. It was a....strong opinionated discussion about whether pants are modest and okay to wear.

Now I have no problem wearing pants or shorts. I wear them all the time. I don't have a problem with skirts either and have been incorporating more skirts into my wardrobe lately.
This isn't going to be a post about why I think pants are okay to wear. This is going to be a post asking,

Because some of the things said and implied in that comment war were just downright unnecessary.
First off, the girl who started it all said she didn't think jeans were modest, quoted Deuteronomy 22:5, and couldn't understand how jeans could be considered modest. tell me why it was necessary for you to confront Olivia about this?
I'm not saying Christians shouldn't offer helpful advice to their brothers and sisters in Christ. But do we really think leaving a comment on someone's blog is going to change their opinion? People whom we don't even know in real life?? Why do Christians jump all over one another when someone has an opinion different from their own? Why we do we try to conform everyone else to our convictions? Why can't we just let them be?

Please understand that I'm not trying to point fingers, put others down, or (haha) change someone's opinion. I am just as guilty as the next person of judging others and continually need to work at NOT doing that! :)

Listen up-we are not perfect. We do not have all the answers. We all make mistakes. We all intrepret Scripture wrongly at times. As to modesty-God gave us brains. It is up to us to use God given common sense and the Bible to form our own convictions. If a girl believes in wearing only skirts-then let her do it! Don't give her a hard time. If she believes that pants are okay, again, don't give her a hard time!

I mean really....who made YOU the judge?

This video was our sermon today for our "home church". When we were watching it I got so excited because it was so so so so PERFECT for what I wanted to address in this post. He (Tim Conway) says all I wanted to say and more-and he says it much better than I ever would!

It's a long video-an hour-but if you have the time, please sit down and watch it because WE ALL need this message.

PS. All I see is on blank spot for this video when I post it, so if you have the same problem, here is the link:

I've Been Awarded!

The lovely Rebekah and Cassie at Calico Sisters nominated me for The Sunshine Award! I'm so happy and excited-this is the first time I've been awarded! :)

Q. What is your favorite thing to do when spring comes around?
Hm. Well, since I live in Florida it kinda goes from summer to winter to summer again without ever truly having a spring or fall. (Or even a real winter, but that's beside the point ;) Imagining that I did live in a climate that had springs, I would go outside and sit in the sun with a book or my journal. Or maybe take my art supplies and work on a project.

Q. What kinds of animals do you own?
Hahaha...I just love when I get this answer in real life. We have 3 dogs, 4 chickens, and 12 barn cats. Well, okay, we HAD 12 barn cats but we rarely ever see 3 of them so technically we have 9.

Q. What experience in your life drew you close to God? / Or / In what way has God really revealed himself to you?
I would say when I had surgery done on my spine at 13 years old (gosh, was that really 2 years ago??) I really felt God's presence and help. I mean, you would expect to be scared half to death that you're going to have somebody cut open your back (sorry to all you squeamish people), but I felt relatively calm and collected. I knew He was there helping me through it.

Q. What is a favorite color of yours?
Aqua blue. It's so pretty and soothing and reminds me of summery days splashing in the pool.

Q. Do you like to knit, crochet, or sew the most?
I dabble in knitting and crochet and enjoy it (and would like to get better at it!), but I mostly sew. So I guess I like sewing the most. At the moment I don't sew any clothes, just doll costumes. But I would really like to get some patterns and start working on outfits for me! :)

Q. Which one is your favorite letters from the Apostle Paul (Corinthians 1 or 2, Galatians, Philippians, etc.)?
Hm. Good question. I've never thought about it before. They're all good letters, of course. :)
I can't say I really have an answer for this. I'll have to think about it next time I read them!

Q. What are some of your favorite old time shows? (Waltons, Little House, Andy Griffith, Father Knows Best, Christy)
Oh my goodness, what a perfect question. Probably 85% of the shows and movies my family watched are "old time" ones. :) Some of my favorites are Andy Griffith, Petticoat Junction, Get Smart, Green Acres, Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., Christy, Little House, Car 54, Leave it to Beaver.....

Q. What is your favorite thing to bake?
Cookies! :)

Q. Skirts or dresses?
Pretty much skirts. I have about 2 dresses. Not that I don't love dresses, it's just so hard to find cute, comfortable, and modest (to the knee) ones! I really love 1940s-1950s styled dresses and always have plans to sew one in the back of my mind! Someday....

Q. What household chore do you enjoy the most?
Well, I don't mind cleaning up the kitchen or dusting. I can't say I enjoy them though. :) One "chore" I really like is organizing things. Whether it be a drawer, a desk, a pantry-anything really!

Q. City or country life?
Country alllll the way. Seriously, one day of shopping in a congested area makes me long to get back to my home on 5 acres! I used to live in a subdivision, but ever since my family moved out to the country, I never want to go back. Ever. :)

And now for my nominees!!
